Our Vision for Our City in 2021
The 2021 team shares a vision for our city. We want it to be a great place to live, work and play, where all its citizens feel they belong. A safe city, free from the fear of crime.
Our city needs to be based on social justice and give its citizens a fair go for all, where the economy is strong and has full employment, while its people have access to warm housing, good education and affordable leisure facilities.
2021 want Maori and Pakeha to have a genuine partnership based on the Treaty of Waitangi, with all of the people able to participate in open, democratic decision-making.
Our Christchurch environment needs to be protected and preserved, with all of its precious water, rivers, beaches, hills, and parks cared for.
Transport, homes and industries need to be eco-friendly and energy-efficient, with clean air a priority. Basic services, such as roads, footpaths, drainage, sewerage and water supply need to be maintained to a high standard.
2021 believes our port, airport, electricity network, city housing and other strategic assets should remain in the people's ownership.
We want a city that nurtures our young people, keeps our elderly secure, with people of all cultures respected and valued.
The People's Choice
The 2021 team brings together an impressive group of candidates. They want to consult with their communities, hear their views and work towards making their areas the best place to live, work and raise a family.
Some of our candidates have gained experience as Councillors and as Community Board members. All have taken responsibilities in many different organisations. They are active members of their communities and would be proud to represent them.
The quality of our 2021 team makes it "The People's Choice" for the local Christchurch elections in October. Please give us your vote!

Point being ... great events aren't bought, they're born. There has been a lot of criticism about Councillor Sheriff's trip to San Diego to study a "sand castle competition" – from me included – but the biggest waste of time and our money is that she has not apparently returned with a copy of their Production Schedule.

Jim Anderton announced today that he will re-instate the role of Council Committees so that Councillors have an opportunity to do more in-depth research and public consultation before the Council makes final decisions on where to spend rate-payers money. "Councillors need the time to delve more deeply into areas like infrastructure investment and managing the city's business before they make decisions that have long term implications. They need to have a robust process which enables them to consult with local people," says Mayoral candidate Jim Anderton. Council Committees were disbanded in 2004 partly because of concerns that Councillors were being paid extra to Chair the Committees and took too much power.
The Government removed Canterbury's elected councillors and imposed an undemocratic plan for taking our water. Given time, this means our children will lose the clean drinking water we have all enjoyed and they won't be able to swim and fish in our rivers. Is it right...
